$224 Million Win, Government Contract Fraud

LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND POWER OVERCHARGED PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND AGENCIES

Three Whistleblower Partners lawyers led the representation of whistleblower Sam Barakat, the County of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District, and other government agencies in a case alleging that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power had knowingly overcharged schools and other public agencies for electric power over the course of a decade. The team used a ground-breaking legal theory that had never before been tested in court, dissecting elaborate cost accounting to demonstrate that the plaintiffs had been overcharged relative to the true cost of service. The DWP ultimately settled the case for $224 million.
